M+V in association with Fenetre Partners, Ltd. conducted a webinar on 19th May 2020. The panel consisted of Yasushi Hasegawa (Co-founder & Representative Director | Fenetre Partners, Ltd.) and Satoshi Takayama (Co-founder & Representative Director | Fenetre Partners, Ltd.). GraziellaTrebbels (Managerin Marketing & Business Development bei Maier + Vidorno GmbH) was the moderator. The webinar covered topics starting from an overview of the Japanese economy & industry, the target sectors to the challenges of doing business in Japan, and also some recommendations.

If your target sector is that of either big global manufacturer or solutions for the aging population then Japan can prove to be an attractive market. Automotive, construction machinery, robotics & automation, healthcare & medicine and IT are some of the growing sectors.

There are also certain challenges of doing business in Japan,

· Language Barrier

· Business Culture

· Distribution Channel

The webinar also threw light on certain prerequisites to be successful in Japan. These included being successful in Europe and the US first, having a very unique product, a local salesperson for technical products and professional services, a strong brand, and a focus on promotions for consumer goods.

There are numerous options through which you can enter the market. It could be through a local distributor, on an outsourcing basis, or through investment.

It was indeed a very comprehensive and insightful webinar and painted a very clear picture of doing business in Japan.
