Energy Productivity

EP100 brings together a growing group of energy-smart companies improving their energy productivity to lower their emissions and improve their competitiveness. EP100 is led by the Climate Group. Their mission is to lower global energy demand and accelerate the clean energy transition.

The session shares insight about the importance and share of energy productivity, business models and technologies for the implementation of it and the opportunities and challenges faces in the process by the companies.

Energy is a fundamental lever of productivity itself; it is the common link that hold the diverse business. Also, energy is the driver of cost as not having energy productivity is burning the money that could have saved. Many businesses joining EP100 have scaled their productivity and energy efficiency to levels as more as 10 times the investment.

Roadblocks to companies towards EP100

A hurdle for Big industries- For Big industries such as Steel, moving to a different energy alternative may lead to heavy damage as the technological old machinery will not be able to handle the fluctuation.

Risk for the companies as the power sourcing is complicated which includes cooling, centralized heating, steam, compressed air, etc.

Lack of trust among companies as the contracts are deemed as unfair, as one has to go through a lot of changes.

Suggested Measures to go about the Change

Monitoring energy closely, saving it and replacing it with greener options wherever possible.

Tapping waste and using it to produce energy to increase efficiency.

§              Bundling of Solutions by the companies to save themselves from the risk of complications.

§              Prioritizing projects that increase productivity, penalizing projects with higher carbon rating and                 undertake only efficient ones.

§              Setting aggressive target towards climate change with accountability on actions.

§              Keeping in mind the good of regulators, customers, suppliers, employees, community and investors.

§              Learning from companies that are successfully doing the carbon reduction and implementing it using            Circular Economy.

These steps if taken with a proper vision in mind towards a more efficient and productive business     will not only result in cost reduction but will also benefit the environment in many ways.
